About the Programme

The M.Sc. in Psychology at HIU is for people who want to go deeper — expanding their knowledge across a range of applied psychology fields.

The focus is on grounded, applied work: from diagnostic assessment through to intervention in outpatient, inpatient, and institutional settings.

What sets the programme apart is how broadly it trains you. You build clinical skills you can actually use, while also developing the methodological grounding to stay current as the field evolves. Teaching draws directly on current research and connects it to real clinical work.

The curriculum meets both EuroPsy and BDP requirements — meaning your degree holds up professionally in Germany and across Europe.

We train psychologists who combine solid clinical knowledge with genuine human understanding. That's what practice actually needs.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Scope of the Degree

This M.Sc. qualifies graduates for a broad range of clinical psychological roles and senior positions across healthcare, research, and organizational contexts. It does not confer the Approbation required to practise as a licensed psychotherapist. Graduates pursuing psychotherapy licensure will need to complete the separate Approbation pathway. Our advising team is happy to explain the distinction in detail.

Demand for qualified clinical psychologists in Germany continues to grow — particularly in neuropsychological and gerontopsychological care, where the gap between need and available specialists is most acute.

Why This Programme Stands Out

Cohort sizes are deliberately kept small, giving every student close contact with faculty and more personal mentoring — not a lecture hall.

Your degree meets the standards of both EuroPsy and the Berufsverband Deutscher Psychologinnen und Psychologen — the recognised professional benchmarks across psychology in Germany and Europe.

You don't just learn how to apply psychology — you learn how to advance it. Research methods, scientific writing, and independent inquiry are woven throughout the entire curriculum.

Study alongside students from neighbouring health disciplines and develop the cross-professional perspective that modern clinical settings expect.

Qualified applicants from related degree programmes can access the M.Sc. through a defined cross-entry pathway. There are more ways into psychology than most people assume.
