Investigating the role and effectiveness of animal-assisted interventions across therapeutic, pedagogical, and rehabilitation settings.
Animal-assisted therapy has become firmly established as a complementary approach in therapeutic settings such as psychology, physiotherapy, and social pedagogy. As a young discipline, it is undergoing a dynamic period of development. Within the departments of psychology, education, and therapy sciences at our university, a range of research projects are being conducted in the field of animal-assisted therapy.

The Use of Listed Dog Breeds in Animal-Assisted Therapy Among Rehabilitation Patients
In a field study, 545 individuals were surveyed regarding their willingness to undergo animal-assisted therapy with a listed dog breed, and the psychological factors underlying their decision were assessed.
Implementing a Therapy Dog in Geriatric Rehabilitation Facilities
In this collaborative research project between the Robert Bosch Hospital and HIU, the acceptance and effectiveness of animal-assisted therapy in geriatric rehabilitation are being investigated.
The Long-Term Effectiveness of Medical Hypnotherapy in Patients with Animal Phobia
In this qualitative study, 13 participants each receive two treatment sessions administered by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schäberle as part of the intervention. The aim is to assess the long-term effectiveness of medical hypnotherapy in patients with animal phobia. The scientific staff member at HIU, Alisa Wenzel, is responsible for analysing the study. Results are expected by February 2025 and will subsequently be published.
