Health Campus at ukb Berlin: Breaking Ground for the Future of Nursing

Groundbreaking ceremony for the new ukb nursing school on the Health Campus at ukb Berlin with representatives of BG Kliniken, ukb, Berlin Senate, District Mayor Nadja Zivkovic, and HIU leadership.

On August 31, 2026, a major milestone was reached at the Health Campus at ukb. Prof. Dr. med. Paul A. Grützner (Managing Director of Medicine, BG Kliniken), Christian Dreißigacker (Managing Director, BG Klinikum Unfallkrankenhaus Berlin) and Kathrin Leffler (Director of Nursing) — together with the hospital's executive board, representatives of the Berlin Senate and District Mayor Nadja Zivkovic — officially broke ground for ukb's new nursing school.

In his keynote speech, Prof. Dr. med. Paul A. Grützner highlighted the critical intersection between modern healthcare and digital competencies:

"This needs open-minded young people who are ready to walk this path of digitalization. It's useless to implement a new computer system in a clinic if the staff is not ready to benefit from it. And what is the benefit? More time with the patient!"

Located directly on the Health Campus at ukb, HIU | Health Innovation University of Applied Sciences is proud to be part of this vibrant ecosystem — and committed to closing precisely that gap between new technology and the people who work with it. Building on our existing Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in healthcare, HIU is expanding its academic offering with an English-taught Master in Nursing. The program is designed to equip healthcare professionals with the digital skills required to transform modern patient care, and we look forward to welcoming our first cohort in the summer semester of 2027.
