Berlin, 25 June 2023 – Students from the Physiotherapy cohort at IB Hochschule recently had the exciting opportunity to visit the Body Worlds exhibition at Alexanderplatz in Berlin. Under the expert guidance of lecturer Daniela Albrecht, they explored the exhibition in order to deepen their knowledge of anatomy, physiology and biomechanics of the human body.
The exhibition offered students a unique opportunity to observe the human body in its full complexity. With plastinated bodies and organs, they could experience the structures and functions of the body in a vivid way. From the muscles through the skeleton to the organs, the various aspects of human anatomy were presented in detail.
In our experience-oriented society, the body plays an ambivalent role. On the one hand it has lost importance because many work processes require less physical effort and social interactions increasingly take place in a disembodied way. On the other hand, we focus more and more on our body and intensively pursue body care, fitness, diets and cosmetic surgery. The desire for an ideal body is strongly developed and represents a new form of meaning-making.
In addition, the exhibition was dedicated to the influence of today's eating habits on the body and the connection between stress and health. Students thus gained a comprehensive insight into the topic of health and the importance of a balanced work-life balance in our modern society.
The excursion to the Body Worlds exhibition proved extremely educational and inspiring for the aspiring physiotherapists. They were able to consolidate their knowledge and gain new insights that will be of great use to them in their future careers.
