New research project AktiSmart-KI at IB Hochschule

Research project AktiSmart-KI

The research project aims to gain the latest insights in the field of E-Health and serves to identify complex activity patterns through smart sensor technology in geriatric rehabilitation.

Especially given Germany's demographic development, the research topic is essential and can deliver groundbreaking results. The project is a joint project of the University of Ulm, Robert-Bosch-Krankenhaus Stuttgart and IB Hochschule Berlin.

It is funded by the Federal Ministry of Health. The idea arose from a funding call on "smart sensor technology" for digital innovations to improve patient-centred care in healthcare by the Federal Ministry. The main goal of this project is the low-threshold use of activity sensors worn on the body in geriatric rehabilitation, so that an automated analysis of movement patterns can take place.

An interdisciplinary team of computer scientists, doctors, lawyers, psychologists and ethicists will work on three sub-goals. First, the technology for learning on body-worn sensors will be developed. Since the sensors are developed for clinical use, legal and ethical framework conditions must be observed. Aspects of data protection as well as ethical and legal considerations play a significant role.

After the preparatory steps, the third sub-goal will be achieved: testing under real conditions in clinical use. IB Hochschule's task is to examine the data protection legal aspects in more detail and to create a solid and legally secure foundation for the project.

The project has been approved for the period from 01.04.2020 to 30.09.2022. Project lead at IB Hochschule is Prof. Dr. Alexandra Jorzig.
