Specialist conference "Chances in the Quarter: Locating Basic Education – Reaching Target Groups"

The final conference of the Delta-Netz Transfer project took place on 4 September 2024 in Frankfurt am Main and offered a lively platform for exchange between science, practice and those affected. The conference was held by the central management of Internationaler Bund (IB) as well as the three project locations Neuenhagen, Koblenz and Schwerin.
A particular highlight was the scientific talk by Dr. Ewelina Mania from the German Institute for Adult Education, who impressed with her expertise on social space-oriented educational work. In addition, Kerstin Goldenstein from the Alpha Self-Help Umbrella Association e.V. brought the perspective of those affected closer and emphasised the importance of self-help for the target groups.
In the lively discussions, practice-oriented approaches such as addressing the target groups, life-world-oriented basic education offerings and sensitising actors in quarter networks were intensively illuminated. Experiences from the Neuenhagen, Schwerin and Koblenz locations with their low-threshold learning offerings also met great approval.
Participants agreed: the conference created a valuable space for exchange and inspiration and set a strong sign for the further development of basic education in the quarter. The lively exchange and joint discussion made the event an unforgettable experience.
The project is funded from funds of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research within the Alphadekade. It aims to better reach and promote adults with reading and writing difficulties and counter their stigmatisation.
IB Hochschule supported the "Delta Netz Transfer" project as a cooperation partner with the scientific accompaniment of the project. In this cooperation IB Hochschule conducted qualitative interviews with employees at the involved project locations in Schwerin, Neuenhagen, Koblenz and Suhl as well as with voluntary employees and participants of the Delta Netz learning offers. The goal of these interviews was to find out how basic education can be successfully designed in the joint project. It became clear that a sensitive approach as well as continuous social-pedagogical accompaniment of learners play a central role.
