On Friday, July 18, 2025, HIU opened its doors for Campus Day starting at 4 PM. Numerous prospective students took the opportunity to get a first-hand look at university life, speak with current students and faculty, and experience the special atmosphere of the Health Campus at ukb.
HIU had prepared a diverse and informative program. After a warm welcome from Prof. Dr. Silke Brenne, Prof. Dr. Mariam Hartinger gave exciting insights into HIU's development and explained the advantages of studying at the Health Campus. She emphasized the practice-oriented approach, close ties with Unfallkrankenhaus Berlin (ukb), and the growing importance of international cooperation.
Guests then dispersed to individual program presentations. In dedicated rooms, faculty and students introduced the degree programs – including Applied Psychology, Health Education, Applied Therapy Sciences, and Digital Health. There was ample room for individual questions and conversations.
A particular highlight was the campus tour across the ukb grounds. It passed historic brick buildings – once part of a psychiatric facility on Berlin's outskirts – all the way to the ultra-modern emergency department of today's BG Klinikum. Visitors could also see the future home of the university, Building 2, currently under renovation.
Visitors received fascinating insights into emergency care operations: What happens in the trauma room? How does initial intake work? What scenarios are planned for disaster situations? And how does the rescue helicopter "Christoph Berlin" operate? By coincidence, it landed during the tour – fortunately without a mission, but with much amazement among the guests.
The day concluded with an open-air talk titled "Research Is Part of Studying." Prof. Dr. Thomas Bürk and Alisa Wenzel demonstrated with practical examples how research works at HIU and why it is an integral part of the study experience.
Campus Day 2025 was a valuable day – with informative sessions, personal encounters, and inspiring insights into studying at a truly special place.
