Studying Applied Therapy Science part-time – good reasons for studying alongside work
Frau Zimmermann, how does the part-time programme differ from the training-integrated variant? – The Applied Therapy Science programme is accredited as a training-integrated and as a part-time variant. Training-integrated, our students start their training to be occupational, physio- or speech and language therapists and finish the programme when they are already active in their profession. They study 8 semesters. With a duration of only 5 semesters, occupational, physio- and speech and language therapists can study Applied Therapy Science part-time.
The programme enables flexible compatibility of studies and profession and allows students to transfer their scientific insights directly into practice!
What advantages does the part-time programme offer for therapists already in work? – The advantages lie not only in the short duration of 5 semesters. Working occupational, physio- and speech and language therapists do not need university entrance qualifications (Abitur). Per semester there are 3 modules: one module in presence, since therapy is well known to be applied. There is also one module in online presence, i.e. studying from home. The third module in the semester can be studied asynchronously, always at the time when the profession, family or leisure allow it.
Working occupational, speech and language and physiotherapists can develop academically without having to give up their professional activity. They acquire deeper scientific and research-oriented competences that enrich their daily work and open new professional perspectives, for example in leadership positions or research.
Why is it a good decision right now to start the programme part-time at IB Hochschule? – Education is a good decision at any time. The therapists are finally also "on their way" in Germany to academisation. With the Applied Therapy Science programme part-time, IB Hochschule offers, from long experience with therapy programmes, a possibility for all interested occupational, physio- and speech and language therapists to help shape the academisation process.
