Today, July 9, 2025, HIU celebrates its 18th anniversary – an occasion to look back on an eventful and successful journey.
Founded in 2007 as part of the Internationaler Bund (IB), the focus from the very beginning was on practice-oriented, future-focused degree programs. A significant chapter began on Besselstraße in Berlin-Kreuzberg and continued at Gerichtstraße 27 in Berlin-Wedding, where we spent many formative years alongside the Medical Academy. There, the foundation was laid – for strong programs in healthcare, dedicated teaching teams, and a vibrant university community. From the start, people were at the center of everything.
The move to Breitenbachstraße marked a transitional period that we used as an opportunity to reorganize ourselves both structurally and spatially.
Today, we have arrived: at the modern Health Campus at ukb. With cutting-edge facilities, interdisciplinary collaborations, and a direct connection to practice, we offer our students ideal conditions for both their academic and personal development.
18 years of HIU means new beginnings, change, and steady growth. We thank everyone who has walked this path with us – and look forward to many more years together.

"18 years of HIU means 18 years of education for all. That means: studying without traditional entrance qualifications, without a numerus clausus, and open to everyone who convinces us with their personality and motivation.
18 years of HIU means approximately 1,500 graduates. The career paths of our alumni are impressive and show what professional perspectives develop when HIU is on your CV.
18 years of HIU means an absolute fresh start for us right now. Under the new operator, the GEN Group, we will expand our portfolio and offer international degree programs. That will be exciting – not only for international students from various countries, but also for domestic students who can now choose between German-language and English-language programs.
For 18 years of work and dedication, I thank the entire team from the bottom of my heart, the Internationaler Bund, who supported us through to this milestone, and all authorities and state institutions for their excellent collaboration since our founding on July 9, 2007."
