Interactions
Investigating how social and psychological factors shape individual and community health outcomes.
Psychosocial interactions refer to the interplay between social and psychological factors that influence human behavior, well-being, and health. These interactions encompass, for example, the ways in which people act and communicate with one another in various social contexts. Likewise, societal circumstances and social processes have a significant impact on mental health and social participation. Current discourses and practices in the field of psychosocial interactions cover a wide range of topics affecting both individual and societal levels. We investigate these from discipline-specific as well as interdisciplinary perspectives — drawing on psychology, social sciences, and education.

InCAREgio
Innovative Arrangements for Preventive Care in the Care and Nursing Sector in Structurally Weak Regions (BMBF: 01/2023 – 12/2025): As part of the BMBF-funded sub-project of HIU (in collaboration with the Department of Geography at HU Berlin), Prof. Dr. Thomas Bürk and his research team — Stefanie Bautsch, Margarida Rischawy Mariano, and Dr. Isa Wortelkamp — are investigating local conditions of the skilled labor shortage in the Märkisch-Oderland region. In close cooperation with IB Nordost, a continuing education module is being developed by the end of 2025, aimed at examining structural and interpersonal discrimination practices in nursing, therapy, and rehabilitation, and making them accessible for professional reflection.
Congress "Poverty and Health"
The topic of "Poverty and Health" has become synonymous with public health research and action, not least because of the annual congress of the same name held in Berlin. In recent years, HIU has regularly presented itself and its research topics in this field at the congress, and also strives to encourage active participation of students in panels and specialist forums.
