Fifteen years ago today, on 9 July 2007, the Berlin Senate Chancellery granted state recognition to what was then known as "IB-Hochschule Berlin". The university of Internationaler Bund could thus start operations as a private university and began with its first cohort in Health Sciences as a part-time programme in winter semester 2007/2008.
This programme was later converted into "Applied Therapy Science" and tailored to the three therapy professions of occupational therapy, physiotherapy and speech and language therapy. From the "Pedagogical continuing education for medical professionals", once located at the Institute for Continuing Education of IB Hochschule, the university developed the part-time programme "Health Care Education / Gesundheitspädagogik", which has since been expanded with a Master's programme. With this, nursing staff obtain the nationwide qualification required as a teacher.
With tradition and strength in part-time programmes, also in niche programmes such as Medical Radiology Technology, IB Hochschule now also stands for an open-admission Bachelor and Master in Psychology. It has also enabled the testing of the so-called model clause for academisation of the therapy professions Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy since 2012 in two model phases including scientific support.
The renaming to "IB Hochschule für Gesundheit und Soziales" took place in October 2019.
Geared to the digital transformation of healthcare, IB Hochschule will expand its portfolio from winter semester 2022/23 with the Digital Health programmes (Bachelor / Continuing-education Master).
