Symposium in New Zealand: International Experts Share Insights on Mobility and Fall Prevention in Older Adults

On February 5, 2025, experts from Europe, Australia, and New Zealand presented their latest research findings at the symposium "Ageing, Mobility and Staying Upright" at the University of Auckland.
In New Zealand too, falls are among the three most common causes of injury-related death in people over 65 – and the leading cause of death in those over 80. Approximately 30 percent of people over 65 experience a fall each year, and about 60 percent of care home residents fall annually.
The event was organized to address the urgent need for high-quality research in this area, says Professor Ngaire Kerse, General Practitioner, Chair, and Director of the CoCreated Ageing Research Centre at the University of Auckland.
Topics included the development and use of wearable sensors for measuring physical activity. Professor Jochen Klenk from HIU shared insights from the clinical validation study of the Mobilise-D EU project on restoring mobility after hip fracture surgery.
The University of Auckland is New Zealand's largest and leading research university, internationally recognized for its interdisciplinary research. Its CoCreated Ageing Research Centre plays a central role in aging research and developing innovative solutions for an aging society.
