Berlin, March 2026 – IB Hochschule für Gesundheit und Soziales now operates under a new name: Health Innovation University of Applied Sciences (HIU). With the renaming, the state-recognised university is positioning itself decisively on the international stage and sharpening its focus on the future of healthcare.
The new name reflects what has shaped the university since its founding in 2007 – and will be even more central going forward: innovation in healthcare. While the previous name was primarily understood in German-speaking countries, "Health Innovation University" provides international clarity and visibility. Until mid-2025 the university was part of the Internationaler Bund (IB) and, following the change of operator, has belonged to the Global Education Network Group (GEN Group).
"The new name is more than a rebranding – it stands for our clear vision of an internationally oriented university that actively shapes innovation in healthcare. At the same time, our aspiration remains unchanged: with all the technological development, we must not lose sight of the human being," says President Prof. Dr. Mariam Hartinger. "That is exactly what our guiding principle stands for: Seeing the human being."
The new brand identity also includes a modern logo, a contemporary design and a completely new website. It will go live on 1 April 2026 and digitally reflect the university's international orientation.
Also on 1 April 2026, the university will move into a new building on the Health Campus of Unfallkrankenhaus Berlin (ukb). This strengthens its close ties to practice and creates optimal conditions for teaching, research and cooperation in healthcare.
In terms of content, the university remains true to its established profile: degree programmes, accreditations and qualifications remain unchanged. At the same time, HIU is expanding its portfolio in a targeted way – including with new, internationally oriented programmes in areas such as Digital Health and Health Education and Psychology.
With the new name and strategic realignment, the university pursues a clear vision: an internationally networked university that trains professionals for the global challenges in healthcare and combines innovation with a clear focus on people.
