“Psychologists Specializing in Children and Adolescents Are Urgently Needed” – Prof. Dr. Arnold on Her Path and Vision

Following her start teaching at HIU last autumn, Prof. Dr. Sabine Arnold has now been officially appointed as Professor of Applied Psychology. On the occasion of her appointment, she shared fascinating insights into her career, motivation, and vision for teaching.
"I am a psychologist and licensed child and adolescent psychotherapist with my own practice in Berlin Friedenau. My profession is very close to my heart, and I want to contribute to quality psychotherapeutic care for young people through research, practice, and teaching."
Already during her youth, she wanted to study Psychology to better understand how people think, feel, and act. She completed her Bachelor's at the University of Trier and her Master of Science at the University of Konstanz. A formative research stay at the University of California, Davis, focused on psychological distress and suicidality. She then worked as a research assistant in Clinical Psychology at the University of Tübingen, studying early perceptual processes in patients with eating disorders.
Ten years ago, she moved to Berlin to complete her postgraduate training as a child and adolescent psychotherapist at the Freie Universität Berlin. She completed her doctorate at the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin on self-harm, suicidality, and eating disorders in adolescence.
"What inspires me most about my professorship at HIU is passing on my expertise to the next generation of psychologists. As a child and adolescent psychotherapist, I am especially pleased to teach the Clinical Child Psychology module. I want to convey comprehensive specialized knowledge while connecting complex theoretical concepts with practical skills, so that my students can learn with joy and develop into competent experts."
