German Future Prize 2023: innovative achievements in health and social affairs honoured

Berlin, 23 November 2023 – Yesterday evening the German Future Prize 2023 was awarded in a festive setting. The renowned prize honours pioneering innovations and outstanding achievements that make a significant contribution to solving societal challenges. This year's award ceremony focused on progress in health and social affairs.
The winners of the German Future Prize 2023
Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier honoured the researchers Stephan Biber and David M. Grodzki of Siemens Healthineers AG in Erlangen and Michael Uder of Erlangen University Hospital with the German Future Prize, the Federal President's prize for technology and innovation.
The award winners developed a novel platform for the medical application of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) that delivers high-resolution images of the human body with a comparatively weak magnetic field. This enables a simple and compact product design that makes the device transportable and significantly more cost-effective for use in hospitals and medical practices.
Why the German Future Prize?
The German Future Prize is awarded annually by the Federal President and honours outstanding innovations from science and technology. It symbolically stands for the recognition of pioneering developments that have the potential to sustainably shape the future. The award-winning projects should not only be scientifically outstanding but also offer a tangible social benefit. The prize was awarded for the 27th time and is endowed with €250,000.
Hochschule für Gesundheit und Soziales as part of the success
IB Hochschule für Gesundheit und Soziales is honoured to have been invited to and to have participated in the award ceremony. The focus on practice-oriented research and innovative solutions in health and social affairs is reflected in the recognition of the HealthTech innovation project.
"What impressed me: Mr. Steinmeier did not want to stop asking the three project teams questions. The moderator had to stop him again and again. I found his interest in research and innovation very authentic," said Prof. Dr. Mariam Hartinger, President of IB Hochschule für Gesundheit und Soziales.
This also underlines the relevance of IB Hochschule in the current research landscape. The close connection between theoretical knowledge and practice-oriented research makes it possible to integrate innovative approaches directly into professional practice.
The recognition with the German Future Prize 2023 makes clear the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation in research. IB Hochschule looks optimistically into the future, strengthened and motivated to contribute through its programmes to pioneering developments in health and social affairs.
