Education, AI and intercultural cooperation: insights into the future of teaching

Prof. Dormann in China

IB Hochschule für Gesundheit und Soziales' programmes specifically prepare our students for the future – in healthcare or pedagogy. How decisive the connection of digitalisation, didactics and international exchange is, is impressively shown by Prof. Dr. Markus Dormann's China trip. As part of Education+ 2025 in Chengdu, he spoke about the influence of artificial intelligence on educational concepts and discussed with international professionals about future-oriented models of teacher training. An exciting report on cultural dialogue, innovative educational approaches and the question of how we have to rethink learning in the age of AI.

"My trip to China was an inspiring and enriching experience! I had the opportunity to give a specialist talk at Education+ 2025 in Chengdu on Artificial Intelligence and discuss didactic questions in several interviews. The focus was particularly on the question of how the digital transformation in teaching at universities and schools can be successfully implemented.

Here my thesis was confirmed: 'Against the background of Artificial Intelligence we have to rethink everything we know about didactics.' I was also allowed to present my latest research results.

Another highlight was visiting vocational schools, where we could experience the impressive quality and modernity of vocational education in China at close range. Particularly moving was attending the opening ceremony of the national training community of the nursing and health industry. Here it became clear what high value vocational education enjoys in China.

In exciting discussions with local teachers we exchanged thoughts on contemporary didactics and the challenges as well as opportunities of inter-institutional cooperation in the age of AI. It became clear: both China and Germany can learn a lot from each other, especially when it comes to making vocational education and teacher training fit for the future.

In summary, this trip was full of valuable impressions and the realisation that vocational education – whether in schools, universities or companies – is a key to successfully meeting global challenges. Exchange between countries like China and Germany can play a decisive role here."
